How to Care for Your Floral Arrangements
Care Tips
At Marguerite Rose, we believe proper flower care ensures your beautiful blooms remain vibrant and captivating for as long as possible. Whether you've received a fresh seasonal bouquet, a delicate bud vase arrangement, unique dried flowers, or a stunning wreath, this comprehensive flower care guide provides all the expert tips you need to extend their life
1. Prepare A Vase
Choose a clean vase. If it’s been on the shelf for a while and is a bit dusty, give it a good scrub with hot soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Make sure the vase provides enough room for the flower stems – it should be wide enough that the stems aren’t cramped together.
Fill the vase with fresh, cool water (lukewarm water can shock the flowers) and add the provided flower food packet, stirring gently to dissolve it completely. The flower food contains essential nutrients and antibacterial agents that will help keep your arrangement looking beautiful longer.

2. Remove Packaing
Carefully remove your flowers from the cardboard box. You’ll notice an aqua pack wrapped around the base of the stems – this is a cellophane pouch filled with water that keeps your flowers hydrated during transport, as fresh flowers are very thirsty!
Hold the stems over the sink and gently pierce the cellophane to let the water drain out, then remove the aqua pack from the stems. Both the cellophane and cardboard box are biodegradable, so you can dispose of them in your recycling or compost if available. Jute string
3. Trim stems
Using sharp, clean scissors or floral shears, cut each stem at around a 45-degree angle under cool running water. This angled cut helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently and last longer. The diagonal cut provides a larger surface area for water absorption, while straight-cut stems can rest flat against the bottom of the vase, potentially blocking water uptake.
Trim the stems to length suitable to fit your chosen vase, allowing you to arrange them exactly how you like. Remember to recut the stems at an angle every couple of days, as the ends naturally seal over time, which prevents proper water absorption and shortens your flowers’ lifespan.

4. Remove leaves
Before placing your stems in the vase, carefully remove any leaves that would sit below the water line. Submerged leaves will decompose quickly in the water, creating bacteria that can shorten your flowers’ lifespan and cause unpleasant odors. Simply pinch off or trim away any foliage that would be underwater, leaving only the clean stems submerged.
Keep the leaves above the water line intact, as they help the flowers stay healthy and maintain their natural beauty.
5. Flower Placement
Gently place your trimmed stems into the prepared vase, adjusting the height and positioning until you’re happy with the arrangement. Once arranged, choose a suitable location for your flowers – ideally somewhere with indirect light and good air circulation. Avoid placing them near heat sources like radiators, heating vents, or sunny windowsills, as these will cause rapid wilting and fading.
For safety, ensure your arrangement is positioned out of reach of little people and pets who might be tempted to munch the flowers – some can be harmful if consumed.

6. Enjoy
Now sit back and enjoy your beautiful flowers! To keep them looking their best for as long as possible, change the water every 2-3 days (or when it starts to look cloudy), giving the vase a quick rinse each time. Top up with fresh water daily, as flowers are quite thirsty.
If you notice any wilted blooms or yellowing leaves, remove them promptly to keep the arrangement looking fresh and prevent bacteria from affecting the remaining flowers. Don’t be afraid to rearrange the stems as some flowers may open or droop – this is all part of their natural beauty.
Your flowers will naturally have different lifespans – some may last a week, others longer. When individual stems start to fade, simply remove them and continue enjoying the rest. With proper care, your Marguerite Rose arrangement will bring joy to your home for days to come.
Caring for Special Arrangements
Tailored Preservation
Beyond traditional fresh bouquets, specialty arrangements like dried flowers and handcrafted wreaths require unique flower care approaches. While bud vase arrangements simply need regular water top-ups, these distinctive pieces demand specialised flower care techniques to preserve their beauty and extend their lifespan. Our detailed flower care instructions below will help you maintain these special arrangements with the same expertise we use when crafting them.
Caring for your Bud Vase Arrangements
Vase Life

Your bud vase arrangement from Marguerite Rose is designed to be beautifully simple and low-maintenance – perfect for busy businesses and events. These charming small glass vases contain just a few carefully selected seasonal flowers that are ready to display immediately.
When your bud vase is delivered by Marguerite Rose, simply place it in your desired location. No preparation needed – your flowers are already perfectly arranged and ready to enjoy. Position your bud vase away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and radiators if possible, we know this can not always be the case.
Check the water level every few days and top up with fresh, cool water as needed. The small vase means the flowers will drink the water relatively quickly, so a little attention goes a long way. Remove any wilted blooms or yellowing leaves to keep the arrangement looking crisp and professional.
The beauty of bud vases is their simplicity – they’re designed to look elegant even as flowers naturally age. Your bud vase arrangement typically lasts 5-7 days, making it perfect for events or adding a fresh touch to your business environment without the commitment of larger arrangements.
Caring for your Dried Flower Arrangements
Forever Flowers

Dried flower arrangements demand delicate handling. Choose display locations away from direct sunlight and humid environments as this can cause them to fade or mold. Clean using a soft, dry paintbrush or a hairdryer on its coolest setting to remove dust.
Consider displaying dried arrangements in a protected area, such as a glass case, to preserve their intricate details and prevent accidental damage.
Wreath Care and Preservation
Seasonal Memory

When your wreath arrives, choose where you’d like to display it – whether on your front door, above a mantelpiece, or as a table centerpiece. If hanging outdoors, your wreath will naturally stay hydrated from moisture in the air and occasional rain or snow. For indoor display, lightly mist your wreath with water every few days to keep the greenery fresh and prevent it from drying out.
Keep your wreath away from direct heat sources like radiators, fireplaces, or heating vents, as these will cause the natural materials to dry out more quickly. If displayed indoors, a cooler location will help extend its life.
As with all natural materials, some needle drop is normal, especially with pine. Simply give your wreath a gentle shake outdoors occasionally to remove any loose needles. The beauty of a traditional wreath lies in its natural, lived-in appearance as it ages gracefully throughout the season.
Your wreath should stay looking beautiful for 3-4 weeks indoors, or even longer if displayed outside in cooler weather. Enjoy the wonderful pine fragrance and festive charm it brings to your holiday celebrations.
